The Los Angeles Master Chorale has announced it will present a special Hurricane Katrina relief concert conducted by Music Director Grant Gershon and featuring Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna on Sunday, October 16, at 7 pm, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Chorale members are generously donating their services, and all proceeds will benefit the AGMA Emergency Relief Fund, the American Red Cross and Catholic Charities. Tickets go on sale on October 3.

The full-length concert will also include The Lord’s Prayer by Duke Ellington, Tell Him Not To Talk Too Long by Mary Lou Williams, Down in the River to Pray arranged by JAC Redford, and Wana Baraka arranged by Shawn Kirchner. Additionally, Gershon will conduct Sing Joyfully by William Byrd, Cantique de Jean Racine by Gabriel Fauré, Fest-Und Gedenksprüche, Op. 109 by Johannes Brahms, and Hashkiveinu #2 by David Nowakowsky.

“The musicians of the LA Master Chorale wanted an opportunity to express through beautiful music their solidarity with those in the Gulf states who are faced with huge challenges and devastating loss,” stated Gershon, who is helping to spearhead the concert, which comes just two weeks after the Chorale opens its 42nd season. “We are enormously grateful to our good friends at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels for welcoming us so generously and for providing this remarkable space.”
