Antonin Dvorák

Born: September 8, 1841, in Nelahozeves

Died: May 1, 1904, in Prague

Studies: with Antonin Liehmann and at the Prague Organ School, 1857–9

Assignments: Private teaching and composing from 1873 Professor, Prague Conservatory in 1891. Joseph Suk was among his most gifted pupils.

Director, National Conservatory in New York, 1892–5 teaching composition

Recognition: Austrian State Stipendium three times, 1874, 1876–7; Honorary Doctorate from Cambridge, 1891

With Smetana and Janácek, Dvorák is regarded as one of the greatest composers of the nationalist movement in what is now the Czech Republic.
