The Barbara A. and Charles I. Schneider Concert
The Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris. The Sistine Chapel. Walt Disney Concert Hall. Three revolutionary feats of architecture that have sparked the imagination of musicians across eight centuries.
Pérotin, considered to be the West’s first great composer, created music of hypnotic, undulating mystery for the Cathedral of Notre Dame. Viderunt omnes is his masterpiece — music filled with the robust vitality and joy of the Gothic era. In Rome, the music of the Renaissance reaches its zenith with Palestrina's inspired masses. Estonian Arvo Pärt’s love for the human voice — “the most perfect instrument of all” — soars in Disney Hall’s sonic splendor.
Concert sponsor: This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.
