Inaugural Concert in Walt Disney Concert Hall
A dazzling pageant of sound. To open this extraordinary concert, an ancient chant invokes the creative spirit. The excitement mounts with Bach’s exquisitely-crafted motet for double chorus, Sing to the Lord a New Song. Transcendental verse by John Donne and ecstatic poetry by Emily Dickinson inspire John Adams' palette in the vibrant lushness of his 1981 masterwork Harmonium. And a world premiere by the singer's singer, Bobby McFerrin, awakens our senses to the acoustic extravaganza of our new home.
Brief Eternity and Messages were commissioned by the Los Angeles Master Chorale and generously underwritten by Laney & Tom Techentin and Mary K. & Daniel Shaw.
