A MINUTE WITH THE MAESTRO!
Listen to our Music Director Grant Gershon talk a little about this upcoming concert
This season’s most important and adventurous concert is an exotic union of East and West, as two Eastern-influenced works of California-based composers are brought to colorful life by Chorale and company. Sung in Esperanto, Lou Harrison’s La Koro Sutro (“The Heart Sutra”) features 62 singers and an American gamelan ensemble performing this most profound of Buddhist sutras. For the world premiere of award-winning composer Chinary Ung’s latest work, the stage comes alive when the Chorale is joined by a fusion of traditional Cambodian and Western instrumentalists and a dance troupe led by legendary Cambodian choreographer and dancer Sophiline Cheam Shapiro. Experience an expressive and evocative synthesis of musical cultures that can happen only in L.A.
